Dear Bunites, which costumes would you prefer???
(CAUTION: LETS PICK A COSTUME SOONEST! SOME ARE ALREADY SOLD OUT!
1. The costumes are custom-made to your size (you provide your measurements electronically or in person). Yes, they're revealing. Remember, it'll be hot, and ALOT of other folks will be wearing costumes just as revealing. No, you wont look odd.
2. When picking costumes, if you're darker (i.e if you're Black as opposed to Caucasian), you want to pick a lighter shade of costume so..hot pink, white, yellow or hell, all of the above mixed into one! The more fun it looks, the best.
3.If you think it's too revealing, remember that most if not all of these costumes have options of "one-piece". In other words, the Section Leader (i.e the costume designer) can make your costume with a one-piece, instead of a bikini so you're more covered up. Another available option is also that you can have a feather boar added to the back of your bikini/one-piece to cover your badunkadunk a little more ;)The feather boar usually costs a tad bit...say...$10 to $20 extra. You can also get shorts instead of panties for about $25. There're other options so if you think you'd like a costume but you'd want some alterations to it (though they wont allow TOO much of an alteration), we can inquire about that. Also, keep in mind that these costumes do not come cheap although you dont have to pay full price up front. You pay a down payment of about $20-$100, and then you pay the balance when you come to pick your costume up, which can be anytime until the morning of the carnival. The costumes cost anywhere between $160 and $250 for the ladies' costumes, and around $150 to $200 for men. Yup, I agree, ladies! Ish aint fair!!! But trust me, having volunteered in a mas camp and helped to make costumes, I can truly say that the ladies' costumes are much harder to make, and alot more work goes into making them.
4.Last cautionL I'll be providing the links to some of the sites where you can see more of the posted costumes. BUT if you see one that is called "front line", it means that that person will be the "lead" of the group, so their costume will look more flambouyant, but they'll have to pay more for it. Front lines range from $200 to $450 a piece.)
One last thing before you run off to feed your eyes: each costume comes with everything BUT the shoes on the models. You wear your own shoes. I'll make a post about footwear later. Its also an important part of the costume and it can make the difference between a great mas experience and an excruciating one. What do I mean by that? Look out for a post titled "How not To Have a Bad Mas-xperience" :)
#1. AZTEC
What I like about this: 1. multiple colors, 2. somewhat big headpiece, 3.the handpiece the man holds is also nice.
What would have made it better: 1.some pink or yellow, and 2.some more complexity...its too simple, and it isnt quite bright enough for me...but maybe it is for you. What do you think?

#2. BABYLON
What I like about this: 1.Multiple Bright colors, 2. REALLY nice and big headpiece, 3. Love the vest on the men's costume
What I'm not too happy about: The simpliciry of the rest of the costume! But I'd still rock it.
***if you're looking for something more "risque", this might be the costume for you. "Why" do you ask? Because it has a Wire Bra available for purchase for an additional $100. This means that there is already a bra that comes with it (as seen above) but there's another bra that may be purchased. Why is the bra so expensive? Because its HOT. See for yourself. Click here: and check the picture #10 of 16:

#3. IMPERIO ESPANOL
What I like about this: 1.Woooeyy! Can you say rainbow? The colors are amazing. You're going to shine bright in this one. 2. The headpiece is also big so you'll have a "headsup" above the rest ;)
What could have been better: 1. The Black model has the regular costume on. The other lady has the "front line" on. As you can see, the regular costume does not have a "legpiece" like the other one does. Thats a shame :( But I'd still do this. What do you think?
ALSO, if you click below, you'll see that this costume also has a WireBra option available.

#4. JUK SKITTLEZ
What I like about it: 1. THIS JUST MIGHT BE IT! Look at those color! 2. Its got an arm band AND an anklet. 3. Their men's headpiece is TO DIE FOR! 4. I LOVE how the waist pand has a feather part that flares out ;)
How it could be better: 1. The "Backline" i.e the costume for regular, "non-leader" costume does not have a "Backpack" (a backpack is the big feathery stuff that you seee on the back and shoulders of the Black girl in the pic), and I love backpacks.
If I could pick, this would be my first pic. This is likely to sell out soon though, sadly. The people who made this one here (Tribal Knights) tend to sell out quicker than others. For more pictures, look at the link below:

#5. EYE CANDY
What I like about it: 1.The baseline (the top picture) which is what we're likely going to be wearing, has a backpack, and a nice headpice. 2. the men's costume has a nice headpice and I love how they included peacock feathers in theirs.
How it could have been better: 1. I really dont like green. I wore green for my first three consecutive years playing mas, and am over that color now. However, if it is what we pick, I'd be more that happy to flaunt it :)

#6. HOT LIPZ
What I like about this: 1. I'm biased, so please keep that in mind. This costume is made by my Loctitian (the person who does my locks), Avalon so I automatically love it. Please judge for yourself. What do you think? 2. I love the red and 3.the headpiece.
What I wish it had: 1.As baseline, our costume would look like the costume in the first picture up there^. So, it wont have a backpack. 2. I wish the colors were multiple.

#7. BUBBLELICIOUS
Alright, talk about confusion! I LOVE ALL Of the BUBBLELICIOUS options, only problem is: it isnt specified on their site re: what the baseline looks like! All the pictures posted look like frontlines or leaders! So, I might have to make a call to them to get some info about that.
What I already like about this: 1.The colors (except for the brown one) are phenomenal. Take a look at the one in the middle and the last one!!! THey're beautiful! 2.I also love the headpieces, and 3. the male costume.
What I already don't like so much: 1. there is no male baseline costume, just male frontlines, so dudes, get ready to pay $250 for your costumes if we pick this one...it is a nice costume though. You're bound to look awesomest :)

#8.CELEBRATE
What I like about it: 1. its colourful, 2. its verrrry different from the typical feathery mas costume 3. i love that backpack (the red arch) 4.i love the colorful frills on the waistband...almost looks like a skirt! Keep in mind that the long skirt piece is probably optional.
How it could have been better: 1.the headpiece is prettymuch non existent but the designer made up for this with a beautiful backpack. I almost dont miss the headpiece.

#9. SONG
What I like about it: 1. its VERY different from your average caribana feathery costume so it'll stand out in that sense. 2.pretty color combinations 3.i love the jewels
How I wish it was better: 1. Granted I understand the theme didnt allow a big headpiece, I still would like a big headpiece but this costume is still great regardless.
For more info on SONG, click here: (Pst pst! you really should check the link. There are other pieces to the costumes not shown in those pictures up here)

#10. PARADISE
What I like about this: 1. The colors! Beautiful combination.2. The bras are shaped a little differently than others do. 3. the male one is beautiful!
How this could be better: 1.It'd be better with some more accessories...or would that be overkill?

#11. PADIDEH
What I like about it: 1.Originality. 2. Although not all that bright, I do love the color combination. 3. Did I say originality??? 4. Its got alot of accessories.
How it could be better: 1.I have no idea if this is front or backline and have no idea what the male costume looks like :(

#12. OF LOVE AND WAR
*Male* $140
*Fongline* $350What I love about it: 1. Its white, so its likely to look great in the sun on the road. 2. Love the red and hold trims too. 3. The bra style and 4. its somewhat unique, yet its got the feathers that makes it classic
How it could be better: Not sure, to be honest. I'd say this is a great costume! What do you think?

#13. SCARLET MACAW
Male: $100, Female backline: $160, Female frontline: $240, Section head: 360
What I like about it: 1. Did I hear someone say COLORS?!!! I am realllly feeling this! 2.The costume prices are reasonable! 3. Accesories galore!
How it could have been better: O_O and here again, I am dumbfounded. I get a feeling this one here wont last long.

#14. DANCERS OF ZETAYAN
It isnt hard to see that both this, the previous and the next costumes are all from thesame band (BlackSage).
What I like about this: 1. BlackSage is really giving us all the colors this year. This combination is beautiful. 2.Accessories...inclusing leg and arm bands! 3. That headpiece speaks volumes...and then some.
How it could be better: They do have a male costume but have no pictures of it. That's almost shameful, though am sure that the male costume would also be as awesome.

WELL, there you have it folks!
You think we might be able to find one of these costumes to call our own? I think so!!!!
Dont hesitate to leave a comment below on your thoughts on the costumes. Dont have a blogspot account? Fret not!!! You may post anonymously, without an account! :)
Few things to remember:
1. Each costume purchase includes drinks (water and sometimes, they give you alcohol too) and lunch (usually jerk chicken and rice & piece) which'll be served during the carnival.
2. The shoes in the pictures worn by the models, are NOT included in the costs. Look out for an upcoming post about what shoes to wear. The post'll be titled "HOW NOT TO HAVE A BAD MAS-EXPERIENCE".
3. Each costume has options for additions such as "wire bra", "one piece bikini/ monokini", "feather boa", etc
4. You don't have to make the full payment on purchase. You make a down payment when you order your costume, and then the remainder when you pick it up.
5. You may pick it up as late as August 3rd (the carnival is on the 4th).
6. If you are still in town the weekend after, your costume also grants you access and participation to the festival in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
7. Must purchase early as most costumes run out.
8. The goal of the carnival (Caribana) is to dance to soca, show off your costume, and forget there was any such thing as laws :)
